3. Lesson Preparation:
Read up "Highest Common Factor (HCF)" (p9-p10) and "Lowest Common Multiple (LCM)" (p12-14) in the textbook.
There are several methods that you can use to do HCF and LCM.
Look at the methods and try to understand how does each work.

(20120106) Expressing our Appreciation

To make this orientation a success, there are many who work through during the school holidays, or during the orientation activities. Of course, your active participation has contributed greatly to the success of the programme. Take sometime to recall... over this Orientation week, identify someone whom you would like to thank for his/her effort in creating this experience for you. Create a eCard and pen down a few words to express your gratitude, and post it in the class blog.

An eCard could be a digital image some text printed on top of a photo. There are several ways to create one. Here are two suggested ways (you may choose to use other methods that you are familiar with):

• Using KeyNote or PowerPoint, insert a photo into the slide. Insert the desired text. Export the slide as an image.
• Using online dynamic tools like Glogster. This card could be animated. You may generate and embed the HTML codes into the blog post.

Part 1:
An Introduction to what SST stands for (In a nutshell: Vision, Mission, Values and Goals) by Mr Johari

Part 2: Demonstrating my Understanding & Making Connections

Through this part, your class will examine two of the "C"s closely, attempt to understand the rationale and meaning behind each C and how they are connected to the mission statement through a performance task.

You will examine the "C" assigned to your group closely.

Activity 1a: Discussion & Online search (30min)
(i) Carry out an online research on the meanings of the "C" assigned to the group.
(ii) List down positive role models who demonstrate the "C" (e.g. Sir Edmund Hillary - Mount Everest)
(iii) Put down your findings on a butcher paper, which will be displayed on the class notice board.

Activity 1b: Discussion (20 min)
On the butcher paper,
(i) List down positive characteristics of the "C" (e.g. What courage is...) and what the "C' is not (e.g. What courage is not...)
(ii) How should SST students demonstrate that C... In studies, attitude, CCA

Activity 2: Production (40 min)
The performance task requires the group to consolidate the "C" through an artistic/aesthetic expressions eg drawing, skit, song etc.

Your "product" presentation should be between 2.5 to 3 minutes.
Criteria

1. Sound/good definition that is aligned to school values
2. Artistic/aesthetic expression
3. Effective use of technology

Not to upload until the class showcase is over.

Part 3: Class Introduction
The class will also create a brief class introduction that will include the "Cs" using media.
This would be posted into the class blog.

Part 4: Product Showcase & Assessment (30 min)
Each group will showcase the product, that must include
(i) Artistic/aesthetic product
(ii) Verbal presentation (audio recording fine too)

• After the presentation and once it is approved, the representative of the group will upload the product(s) to the class blog.
• Give a title to the blog post. E.g. "Courage by Group 1"

Reflections from Rachel (Reg no. 4)

Dear fellow classmates , PSLs and teachers 

 

The picture dosen't look great i know ...... My first impression of SST was that the people there were friendly , My first goal as a SST student is to set up a American Sign language (ASL) club . I would like to know about my friends hobbies ( besides gaming ) . What makes SST a community is the supprt from PSLs and teacher(s). I find what difines SST from other communities is that as classes arranged are small , help is not only given to everyone as a whole but given as an idividual person .

 

( The part below is not part of the reflection but something I just wanted to add along the way)

 

I'm sorry about the comment I made on the class earlier today....... I don't know all of you well enough to make any comments. If you didn't hear it , I'm glad , but if you are really itching to know , you can ask around ( it's a free country , why not?) . Those who heard it or at least can imagine what i said by now , I give my sincere apoplogies , I'm not expecting you to forgive me for something self-inflicted by unwise-ly picked  words. I guess your first impressions of me aren't that great and i hope as the weeks go by , I can mend that . Again , sincere apologies and I hope that this topic can go unspoken about , for the days to come ( free country , my fault , go ahead if you wish to ) . Not all faults can be mended overnight , choose you words with caution , follow the 4 Rs and I guess I'll see you guys soon .

(20120103) Ice-Breakers!

In this group activity, you are going to know a couple of classmates better, and share this in the class blog.

1. Self-Introduction [5 minutes]

(a) Each member will have 1-minute to do a self introduction.
Suggested talking points:

• Your name. Birthday month.
• Which part of Singapore you live in? How do you come to school?
• What are your favourite pastimes and interests? What you enjoy to do when not studying?
• What is your greatest satisfaction/achievement in your primary school day?
• (exclude PSLE or school exams) Examples: Learnt to cook a meal for your family; Cycle around the island with parents

(b) Listen attentively while your group member is talking.
Try to identify things that are similar or contrasting between both of you.

2. Sharing with others

(a) Using PhotoBooth, take a picture of the group [5 minutes]

• To activate PhotoBooth, go to Spotlight at the top right corner and key in "PhotoBooth". Choose the application to activate it.
• You may explore the different effects in PhotoBooth and choose one for your group photo.
• Drag the photo onto the Desktop.
  

(b) Craft the "introduction" in the email [10 minutes]

• The person whose learning device is used will login to his/her personal email account.
• As a group, craft a few paragraphs to share the class so that the rest of the classmates will know you better.
• E.g. Both of us live in the opposite ends of the Singapore island, one at Pulau Ubin while the other at Tuas. While we enjoy sports, Geraldine likes to swim while I (Karen) like to play basketball.
  

(c) Posting to the class blog [5 min]

• Attach the photograph (from the desktop) to the email.

Dear ladies and gentlemen,

A very warm welcome to all of you who are new members of this class, S1-02! Welcome to secondary school life @ SST!

My name is Mr Seth Tan. It's my pleasure to be your form teacher for this new year, 2012! As your form teacher, I hope to work closely with you to support and empower you in learning and other aspects of holistic development. Do feel free to consult me on a personal level when needed.
